DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Overall, the hot and mainly dry conditions will be sticking with us for Thursday. However, a few showers and storms will be possible during the afternoon hours. Where the storms develop, temperatures will be able to cool off. Highs will reach the middle to upper 90s.
For Friday and for the weekend, storm chances may end up being a little higher than what we have been dealing with. The extra rain and storm activity will help to keep temperatures near average.
A typical August pattern will be setting up as we go into next week. We can expect afternoon showers and storms along with temperatures staying in the lower 90s.
In the tropics, the National Weather Service is watching two areas for potential development in the Atlantic. The one closer to the United States is drifting towards the Bahamas and may increase rain chances for Florida. There is a low chance (10%) for this tropical wave to develop into a tropical depression or storm in the next 5 days.
Further to the east in the central tropical Atlantic, there is a more robust tropical wave that has a better chance to become a tropical depression or storm by the weekend. The Hurricane Center is giving it a 70% chance of developing over the next 5 days. This system will be something to keep an eye on for the east coast of the United States going into later next week.
