DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Roger Spooner, a 97-year-old World War II Veteran who fought at Midway and the Coral Sea, served as the guest speaker at the Dothan Kiwanis Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Spooner spoke about not knowing where he was going when he was sent out, not receiving letters when he sent one out, amongst other things.
Spooner says that while many didn’t make it, he’s proud to still be here. While it’s hard, he can remember things better then he thought he would.
“I’m 97-years-old and gosh it’s easy to get one thing ahead of another, and it’s hard to keep up with,” Spooner said.
Those in attendance told WDHN that they enjoyed hearing Spooner speak and appreciate him for sharing his story.
