Nearby school provides free lunch to students during pandemic shutdown

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — While schools may be closed, it’s not stopping Jerry Lee Faine teachers from seeing their students.

The school is providing free lunches every day for students so they can still eat during the shutdown. The school prepares two hot meals twice a week and cold lunches for the other three days of the week.

School staff says not only is this a way to help but seeing their students is a plus.

“It gives us a way to see our kids and we haven’t been able to. So, they get to see these smiling faces every day it kinda gives them a sense of normalcy in this crazy chaotic time,” said Nikki Burns, assistant principal of Jerry Lee Faine Elementary school.

The school prepared over 200 bags for the distribution Friday.
