Wicksburg improves to 6-0 in area play, defeating Providence Christian on the road

DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — The Wicksburg Panthers entered Tuesday’s night contest against Providence Christian with a perfect 5-0 mark in 3A area play.

The last time these two teams met was just two weeks ago on January 5th and it was Wicksburg coming out on top, 48-43 at home.

In the first quarter in tonight’s matchup, Providence came out soaring behind their senior forward, Abe Chancellor, who knocked down a number of three and slammed home two dunks. One that beat the buzzer at the end of the first and the second dunk gave us the first points of the second quarter, both came off steals.

Providence would take a 16-11 lead into the second quarter. But after that Chancellor dunk, Wicksburg went on an 11-2 run to take 22-20 lead and they would sit on that throughout the half, leading 28-26 at the half.

In the second half, Devonta White, who led the way with a game high 20 points carried Wicksburg to a 57-46 victory over Providence Christian. The Panthers have now won six straight area games to open up the season and sit 15-5 overall.
