WDHN Quarterback Room: Opp’s Hal Smithhart

Sports

OPP, Ala. (WDHN) — Despite Friday’s loss to Geneva, Bobcat junior signal-caller Hal Smithhart had one of the best games ever at that position in school history.

Smithhart was 33-41 passes for 416 yards and three touchdowns.

Hal is the son of Opp City School superintendent Michael Smithhart. Hal volunteers one period each school day working with special needs students.

“From the first snap we established the running game and that set up the passing game,” Hal Smithhart said. “I have to give my credit to my line and my receivers, they were where they need to be.”

“He works hard, he really does. But we have a lot of great coaches who teach, and if he continues to improve we’ll be where we need to be.” Michael Smithhart said.

Opp will be home against intra-Covington County rival Andalusia.
