Troy basketball coaches stop by to talk upcoming season

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — WDHN’s Mike Gurspan sat down with Troy basketball coaches Scott Cross and Chanda Rigby to talk about each of their upcoming seasons.

Scott Cross will be entering his first year as the Men’s basketball coach.

“I think we’re going to be a tough hard-playing team this year. We have been getting after it at practice and our goal is to have the best defensive team in the country,” Cross said. “Hopefully, we’ll move the ball around in transition and score some points.”

Although Scott Cross is new to the team this year, he will have some help with six returning players.

“This group is very coachable. Great attitudes and they are providing effort.”

For Chanda Rigby, the women’s coach, she’s been the coach for seven years now. Rigby has led the Trojans to at least two NCAA Tournament appearances but fell short last year.

“Yeah, we’ve been in it the past two years except for last year. We have seven seniors returning, so they have that bad taste in their mouths,” Rigby said. “We’re working on our offense because we like to score a lot of points. We want to do something special this year.”

Trojan Madness in Trojan Arena will intro the basketball season next Monday night at 5:30 p.m.
