BRUNDIDGE, Ala. (WDHN) — Many people came out to see some drag boat racing at Lake Simmie Saturday.
The Southern Outlaw Dragboat Association (SODA) and the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department hosted the 800ft dragboat race for the second time. The race consisted of eight different boat classes: Pro Mod, 1250lb Comp, Pro Carb, V6 Pro, Formula, Formula 2, River Racer, Bass n Ski. Competitors from all over the south such as Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Texas came to the manmade lake in Brundidge to compete.
Attendees brought out their comfortable lawn chairs and a raging appetite to enjoy the entertainment.
“I got the hottest job out here, but the most fun job. As long as you feeding people, they happy. It’s a lot of fun, family-oriented place out here. Just bring ya family and have a good time,” Dallas Gray said.
A a portion of the proceeds raised at the event will go to the Hamilton Crossroads Fire Department to fund an addition to the fire station.
