Providence Christian’s Lauren Thompson signs to play golf at Lipscomb University

DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — Wednesday afternoon at the Providence Christian gymnasium, the Eagles’ community watched one of their brightest athletes sign to play at the division one level.

Senior, Lauren Thompson, signed to play golf at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee.

In her time at Providence, Thompson has been a large contributor in bringing home three straight team state titles. The Eagles won the 3A AHSAA state championship in 2017, 2018, and 2019. In that 2019 run, Thompson also won the individual title.

That success has earned her the number one ranking throughout the state for the class of 2021.

“I am very excited to sign today, I would just like to thank all of my coaches, my family for supporting me all these years. I am really excited for this day and happy to be at Lipscomb,” Thompson said after signing.

Being a part of a winning program at Providence is something that she will take with her as she becomes a Bison. She credits learning how to win to the coaches at PCS.

“They have really encouraged us and helped us figure out the mindset heading into a state championship and winning those tournaments,” Thompson said. “It takes a lot of perseverance and confidence in yourself that you are going to go out and manage the course well despite the conditions.”
