DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Northside Methodist held a meet and greet for its new baseball coach.

The Knights formally introduced Major League Player Mike Mordecai as their coach. The former player with the Florida Marlins, Montreal Expos and Atlanta Braves is heading back to the Wiregrass. A decade ago, Mordecai coached Houston Academy to several playoff appearances. For the last decade, he’s been a coach in the Toronto Blue Jays organization.

He said raising his children is the main reason to return to Dothan.

“Being closer to my family. I mean I chased my dream for a long time been in professional baseball for 25 years. My family has taken a backseat in a lot of things and I think its time to let them take the front seat. The backseat is still pretty good, I get to run a baseball program and be here at a wonderful school like Northside Methodist,” Mordecai said.

Mordecai said he’s impressed with the support of the school’s administration, and he plans to coach the Knights into the playoffs for years to come.
