DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN)— To start off the week, lets take a look at the Dothan Wolves. Led by coach Smitty Grider, the Wolves will be moving up to the 7A level in 2020.

“They have competed at that level, I think they just got to get used to that being the way it is every week. I think our fans are going to enjoy playing in this division, you are going to get to see a lot of great athletes, every team we play will have multiple college players on it,” Grider said.

Going 8-3 in their inaugural season, Dothan should be right in the thick of things, even now at the top class.

Early this morning, as in right after midnight, the Alabama Sports Writers Association released their 2020 power rankings for all classifications.

At the 7A field, the Wolves made the cut for the top ten being ranked number eight.

Grider called the ranking a recognition of what was done last season and that it also raises expectations but does not change anything for the players.

In their first campaign the Wolves were electric on offense scoring about 37 points per game.

However the man at the helm of the offense, Jamal Lane, has since graduated, as well as Jabre Barber. This makes room for rising seniors, Jaylin White and Will Sharp to come in and produce.

White was a essential piece last season, he was a double digit touchdown guy who has numerous division one offers.

To start the year, the Wolves have a huge matchup with the Hoover Buccaneers, who ranked fourth in the AWSA’s rankings and have been a powerhouse in the past decade.

Dothan has other big matchups against Prattville, Auburn, and Central Phenix City. So, Grider has his team in a position to impress many folks throughout the season.
