DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The newly Dothan Wolves were in action for the first time ever as they welcomed the powerhouse Hoover Buccaneers out of the Birmingham area to Dothan.
“Coach Niblett and I are good friends and he was gracious enough to come down here and play us. I wanted the city of Dothan to see a quality football program,” Coach Grider said.
Both teams came ready to play with their high powered offense. Hoover offense started with a nice pass for a touchdown for the first score of the game. Quickly, Dothan responded with a touchdown from former Northview standout Jabree Barber.
The Wolves had a very good showing in the first half leading at halftime 16-14. In the second half, Hoover took control of the game. The Bucs scored on the opening drive of the second half and proceeded to jump out to a big lead.
Although it was a jamboree game, the Wolves took this game seriously with the season starting in three months. Grider said there are some improvements to work on.
“Well, we gotta clean up special teams and subs, we gotta get our offense and defense together. We only ran a couple of plays. We were very limited,” Coach Grider said.
After three quarters, the Varsity starters were taken out of the game to let the Junior Varsity players play in the game. The score of the game after three quarters was Hoover 28, and Dothan 16.
