TROY, Ala. (WDHN) — The lady Trojans hosted the Appalachian State Mountaineers for the second game of conference play Saturday.

In the first half, the Trojans came out with a hot start. Forcing turnovers, pushing the ball in transition and making shots at will which put the Trojans up by an 11 point margin — the biggest lead of the half. However, the mountaineers cut into the Trojan’s lead sending the Trojans into the locker room up eight points.

“We shot really well, we have some people who have been more focused on defense that when they were shooting the lid came off the basket. People like Harriet, Tiyah shot well, Janiah has been putting the ball in the hole. That really helps us because we been relying on that inside presence to score so it helps when the guards are scoring,” Coach Chanda Rigby said.

In the second half, the Trojans had their way with the Mountaineers. The Trojans continued to pest the Mountaineers’ defense with a full-court press. Not only were the trojans successful on the defensive end, but the Trojans were also dominant on the board too, outrebounding the Mountaineers 55-35.

The Trojans average 23 offensive rebounds per game.

“55 to 35 I think, we’ll take that a 20 point margin. Coach Neil Harrow this was his scout, it was one of his goals to outrebound them by 20 and they did so that was good to accomplish that goal,” Rigby said.

The Trojans opened the lead up to 33 points in the fourth quarter and Jasmine Robinson led the way with 15 points.

“What really gets me going is my teammates. They talk to me, they encourage me, they push me and also my coaches,” Guard Jasmine Robinson said. “They have so much confidence in me to be able to do what I do. Having them behind me is all I need.”

The lady Trojans top the Mountaineers 84-55. Coach Rigby’s next game will be Wednesday on the road against Lousiana Monroe.
