High School Football Preview: The Samson Tigers

SAMSON, Ala (WDHN) — Taking a look at the Samson Tigers as they play their first season since moving down to the Single A class.

Coach Jason Wambles has experience in that region one of Single A, given his time at Kinston, who the Tigers will play on the road later in the season.

Samson will also play a team, who was recently ranked as the top team in Single A by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, the Brantley Bulldogs.

“Brantley is going to have a good football team this year, they always do,” Wambles said about the Bulldogs.

The Tigers are going to lean on a new face at quarterback as Sophomore Jacob Branch takes the reigns under center.

Branch has the luxury of having Braxton Brooks at his disposal, the Junior running back is someone to watch for this season according to coach Wambles.

In their first game of the season, Samson will host Cottonwood, who is heading into their first season under coach Dustin Harrison.

“They are going to be a good team, he (Harrison) does a good job. They always have a talented group over there and they are traditionally strong,” Wambles said.

Including the Cottonwood game, Samson opens their season with four of their first six games at Alva Hawk Stadium, which gives the Tigers a great opportunity to start strong.
