DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — Continuing our high school football tour, we now take a look into the 2020 season for the Providence Christian Eagles.
Coming off a great 10-2 season, coach Kenny Keith enters his ninth season at the helm. This season, Providence will be led by another group of seniors.
After last season, they had to graduate 14 seniors, with two of those being all-state honorees in Hayes Lewis and Michael Sullivan.
Losing 14 seniors, the Eagles also have a new wave of 14 seniors that will be all over the field and eating up play time.
“A lot of our seniors they will be playing, and a lot of them play both ways and we expect a lot out of them. But, the good thing is they have played a lot and they know what to expect, they have been through the fire so we are gonna lean on them to do that,” said coach Keith.
The Eagles return many prominent players like Senior tailback, Gus Goldsborough and Senior wingback, Brant Weatherford. These two guys will also get a lot of minutes on the defensive end as well.
Coach Keith will have a new quarterback in Jake Smith who was a starter last season at cornerback. Smith will be a junior this fall.
This senior leadership will be huge if the Eagles plan on making a deep run into the playoffs in 2020.
Their season kicks off with an exhibition game against Rehobeth on the 21st and then they will open the regular season with a home game against Northside Methodist on the 28th.
