ELBA, Ala (WDHN) — There is a lot of new in store for the Elba Tigers in 2020. They have a new man at head coach in Marc Sieving, also the school moves up into the 2A classification.
Coming off an 8-4 season, the Tigers are hoping to continue their winning ways, which in the last decade seemed to be all they did on the gridiron.
Elba won two state championships in the 2010s, in 2011 and 2015. They also did not record a single losing season. For Sieving, this made the decision to take this job a no brainer.
“They win, when you talk about teams south of Montgomery that can consistently compete for a state championship, there is a small list. Elba is on that list,” coach Sieving said.
In 2020, the move up to 2A brings the Tigers back in to a region that they used to know fairly well. There short two year stint in 1A took them away from playing teams like Abbeville, Cottonwood, Ariton and some other Wiregrass schools.
For Sieving and this Tigers team the key to success is simple, try and find a way to put up the points like they did in 2019. Elba scored nearly 40 points a game last season while holding their opponents to just 25 points a game.
Senior quarterback Ja’Quez Prince will be the guy who will be in charge of repeating that success.
“He is a guy that we are going to ask a lot of this year, we also have a lot of running backs coming back this year,” Sieving said.
Some of those running backs Sieving was talking about were Collin Harrison, Iverson Lane and JT Coleman as well as a fullback/tight end like player in Chrystyile Caldwell.
So for the offense, it looks like there will be many similar faces back on the field for the Tigers and this certainly should bode well for Elba as they look to have another winning season.
In the first game of the year, the Tigers will host Daleville at home.
