DALEVILLE, Ala (WDHN) — Daleville went 7-4 in their first season under coach Desmond Lett now the team faces a new challenge making the move into 3A.
“Moving up to 2A, 3A, it really doesn’t matter. I feel they put their pants on just like us, one leg at a time. So we are going to step out on the field and we are gonna compete against who ever shows up,” coach Lett said.
The bigger challenge Daleville faces in 2020, how do they replace Jalen White?
White broke the state record for rushing which earned him the ASWA 2019 Mr. Football award for the best player in the state. White has graduated and taken his talents to Georgia Southern.
“Replacing him is going to be by cast roll, we have three kids that are going to take up the carries he had. But, he also helped out so much defensively,” coach Lett said about Jalen White.
Lett also talked about the leadership that White provided last season but early on in off season workouts, coach praised the vocal leader that Sincere McKenzie has become.
McKenzie has produced on the field as well. He was named to the All-State 2nd team at the athlete position for his works in the backfield as well as on defense.
“He is vocal, he is trying to step in to the role of leading by example. He is a kid that when he walks in the room and starts talking to the team, they all listen,” Lett said of his senior athlete.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Warhawks get back their leading tackler from 2019 in Myles Parris.
“Having that guy on the defensive side of the ball, a guy you know can get anyone to the ground, he is wide open,” coach Lett said.
Their first game of the year is against the Elba Tigers on August 21st.
