High School Football Preview: Opp Bobcats

OPP, Ala (WDHN) — The Opp Bobcats are now in year six under Brent Hill and they are coming off a a 4-7 season and a birth to the playoffs.

Playing in region two at the 3A level, the Bobcats face stout programs like Pike County, Providence Christian, and Geneva.

The Bulldogs start the 2020 year with three straight home games at Channell Lee Field. With the first being against the Geneva Panthers.

Opp gets back their starting quarterback from 2019 in Hal Smithart and his number one target Erik Matthews. The two rising seniors look to build on the connection that they created a year ago.

On the defensive side they return an all-state player in defensive back Thomas Glisson.

If the Bobcats want to improve their record this year, they will have to play better on the road. Last year they had a 1-5 record in road affairs. Typically, defense travels well but in their road games a year ago they gave up 40 points three times.

Their three away region games this season are against Daleville, Houston Academy, and Wicksburg.

The main keys for the Bobcats this year are travelling well, lean on their seniors, and to play better defense. Now that can be said for almost every school in the Wiregrass but for the Bobcats, their seniors are high level players who make or break games.
