High School Football Preview: Geneva Panthers

GENEVA CITY, Ala (WDHN) — On day two of previewing high school football teams, we take a look at Les Sanders’ Geneva High Panthers.

Coming off a great 8-2 season, the Panthers will look to make a run in the playoffs after getting bounced in the first round last season.

The Panthers pride themselves on defense but after losing two All-State players on both sides of the ball, they will have some big shoes to fill.

Geneva will have a returning player in the most important position, quarterback.

Damion Kemmerlin returns for his senior season after producing over one thousand all purpose yards and 15 total touchdowns.

“Well, he missed the first three games with injury, we were one and two, we got him back and won seven in a row. He just understands our offense and what we are supposed to do, he is really smart,” Coach Les Sanders said of Kemmerlin. “That will be a guy our guys will lean on and look to, number one he is the quarterback but understanding what we wanna do, he just does a really good job.”

In the first game of the season, the Panthers will face Opp high school on the road. Last season, they defeated the Bobcats at home 56-43 in a shootout.

If they are able to produce a record that mirrors theirs of 2019, look for the Panthers to be right in contention for region 2 in 3A.
