EUFAULA, Ala (WDHN) — The Eufaula Tigers are coming off a heartbreaking end to their 2019 season where they lost in the second round of the playoffs in a controversial overtime game to Hueytown.
For a team with 27 seniors, last year’s playoff lost will have a large amount of carry over motivation for the Tigers.
“You know the ball didn’t bounce our way but it is part of the game. There is an internal motivation, no doubt, in these kids,” coach Ed Rigby said.
In order to avenge that loss, the Tigers are going to lean on a loaded offense that features multiple guys that will be playing on Saturdays over the next few years. This high powered offense has Eufaula ranked number seven in the Alabama Sports Writers’ 6A power rankings.
Hess Horne returns in 2020 to lead the offense at quarterback once again, and this year Rigby expects him to continue the production levels he put up. Last year, he led 6A in passing yards and was second overall throughout the state.
“He has the IT factor on the field. From the quarterback position you are the field general,” Rigby said.
Horne will have a lot of guys to throw to in 2020 as Rodarius Thomas, Jay Townsend, Emmanual Stevenson, and Ethan Black all return in the receiving corps.
The Tigers open the season with back to back road games with a jamboree game against Carroll and then they get an early test playing Central Phenix City in week two.
In 2019, Eufaula went 8-2 in the regular season only losing games against Dothan and Wafulla in Florida.
