HEADLAND, Ala. (WDHN) — Two Headland High baseball players received news of a lifetime. In each instance, they verbally agreed to play for Division 1 schools after graduating from the Headland.

Incoming Ram senior catcher Jake Killingsworth batted .500 his junior season. His hitting and strong throwing arm caught the attention of the University of Alabama-Birmingham baseball staff. In 2020, Killingsworth will play for the Blazers.

An incoming junior pitcher Bryce Cunningham, his teammate, plans to play for the NCAA National Champ, Vanderbilt University. At sixteen, Bryce’s fastball has been clocked in the low 90’s.

“They liked the way I was a good teammate and encouraged my team. My fastball and probably my change is the most effective,”

“Being a good teammate and the best person I can be in the community and just being able to hit. I love being able to throw people out and control the bases,”

Both Bryce and Jake are expected to play a pivotal role for the Rams’ in the 2020 season.
