G.W. Long wins Cougar Classic Softball Tournament


The state defending Class 2A softball champions, the G.W. Long Rebels, went undefeated in the Cougar Classic at James Oates park in Dothan.

In the tournament semi-finals, it pitted two of the state’s top pitchers, the Rebel’s Libby Baker who is headed to Troy after graduation, and Northview High junior Jaala Torrence will be with the University of Alabama in the 2020-2021 season.

Baker had 14 strikeouts in the winning cause, Torrence allowed four hits in four innings and struck out five. Thus far, G.W. Long has just lost one game this entire season.

G.W. Long’s only loss on the season was to Alabama Christian Academy out of Montgomery, one of the country’s top high school softball teams.
