ATLANTA, GA (WDHN) — Over the fourth of July weekend, the braves announced that four players had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Among those was first basemen and all-star Freddie Freeman as well as Will Smith, Pete Kozma and Touki Toussaint.

Now Toussaint and Smith are asymptomatic but Kozma and Freeman both were reported to have symptoms but all four will remain out of team activities till two negative tests are seen.

After a phone call with freeman, Braves’ outfielder Nick Markakis will opt out of playing in the shortened season coming up after hearing how bad freeman sounded on the phone.

“Just hearing the way he sounded over the phone kind of opened my eyes,” Markasis told reporters. “Freddie didn’t sound good.”

Markakis now becomes the ninth player to opt this season, including rivals Ryan Zimmerman and Joe Ross of the Washington Nationals.
