DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Tuesday night was the annual free BMX night for more than 300 courses nationwide.
Tuesday night drew more than 100 riders at Dothan’s BMX Track at Westgate Park. In most cases, organizers believe it was meant for kids who have never competed before. The novice riders were given a crash course on how to compete. The club’s mission is to introduce as many folks as possible to the sport.
“Free day is a chance to introduce young people to the sport, they get to race for free and existing riders get to ride free as well,” Travis Roettgen said.
Two weeks ago, the Westgate BMX course hosted a national event which drew several hundred riders. BMX is now a competitive sport in the summer Olympics.
