Dothan Hoops Classic is underway

The 13th annual Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic got underway at the civic center.

The city of Dothan event has returned nearly a half-million dollars to the participating teams over the last 12 years. This year’s field includes some of the best teams in the Wiregrass with 16 teams participating.
Today, four games were scheduled. The first contest featured the Rehobeth Rebels and Ashford Yellow Jackets. The city of Dothan works very hard to make this a successful tournament.

“I was speaking with the coach from Rehobeth before the game and he told me this was the highlight of the season for him and his players,” Rhonda Kirk said.

The Yellow Jackets defeated the Rebels 49-43. The tournament will continue through December 31st. The championship game will take place on New Year’s Eve at 7:00 p.m.
