DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Auburn basektball head coach Bruce Pearl visited Dothan Wednesday night on the Auburn Alumni Association’s AMBUSH tour.
Before meeting dozens of Auburn fans and speaking to the sold out crowd, Pearl spoke to the media.
Since taking Auburn to the Final Four for the first time in school history, Pearl has been on the road recruiting the next class of Tigers. Pearl said the spotlight Auburn received during its NCAA Tournament run has opened the doors in recruiting.
“I think the difference is more doors are opened …. but whether or not we’re able to go in there and get the job done is whole nother matter,” Bearl said. “I have definitely been in some schools and some homes of some kids that would have been out of our reach that now are potentially in our grasp.”
Pearl also discussed Chuma Okeke’s future. Okeke, who was injured in the Sweet 16 against North Carolina, is still projected as a first or second round pick in the NBA Draft.
“He’s still projected to go some place either late first round or maybe early in the second round, but because of his injury, he doesn’t have an oppotunity to play his way higher,” Pearl said. “Now, it’s going to be about how everybody else does. Who impresses at the combine.”
