Andy Burcham takes on new role as the Voice of the Auburn Tigers

AUBURN, Ala. (WDHN) — Auburn Athletics now has a new voice to serve as its announcer for the Tigers.

Andy Burcham will now take the mantle as the “Voice of the Auburn Tigers” following Rod Bramblett, who was killed with his wife abruptly in a vehicular accident in May.

“I’m thrilled to be selected as the Voice of the Auburn Tigers,” Burcham said. “While it’s a bittersweet time and I wish the circumstances creating this opportunity were different, I am honored to be following in the footsteps of such legends as Rod Bramblett, Jim Fyffe, and others.

“With this job, you’re not just the voice of Auburn football, men’s basketball and baseball. You’re also the voice of Auburn. You represent Auburn every day, and I will never forget that. I have been in this community and broadcasting Auburn games for 31 years. I understand and love Auburn and its tradition. I can’t wait to be a part of it moving forward.”

Burcham has worked as a broadcaster for Auburn University since 1988, serving as the play-by-play voice for the women’s basketball games. He also worked with Bramblett for 25 years in broadcasts of Auburn’s baseball games.

As for football, Burcham was the pregame and postgame locker room host for Tiger football and, from 1992 to 2013, did play-by-play announcements for Auburn football pay-per-view and tape-delay programs.

Burcham began his career in sports broadcasting as an undergrad student worker for WISU, calling Sycamore football, men and women’s basketball, and baseball. He would later call games at Illinois State and Southern Illinois as well.

Burcham then established his roots in the Auburn-Opelika market as a news and sports director for Fuller Broadcasting and Tiger Communications and went on to win 15 Alabama Broadcaster Association awards. He also served as a host for Auburn Opelika This Morning during his 12-year tenure as a station manager for WANI.

According to Auburn officials, Burcham was the perfect candidate to follow in Bramblett’s footsteps thanks to his experience and community connections.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Andy, visiting with him on the pregame and postgame shows each week during the football season over the last six years,” head football Coach Gus Malzahn said. “He’s a true professional and is the right person for the job.  I know Andy will continue the tradition of great Auburn voices who have called Auburn football games.”

“Simply put, Andy is unquestionably the right man for the job,” said Allen Greene, Auburn’s director of athletics. “His experience as a broadcaster is extensive and his affinity for Auburn is unrivaled. Having been part of the Auburn Family for over three decades, Andy understands what sets Auburn apart and understands the passion of our loyal fan base.”

As the new Voice, Burcham will co-host Tiger Talk and work baseball broadcasts with his colleague Brad Law.

Law will work as the pregame and postgame locker room host for Auburn football. Meanwhile, Brit Bowen will handle the broadcasts for the women’s basketball and softball games.
