Abbeville Yellow Jackets hope to keep stinging in the semifinals

ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WDHN) — The Abbeville Yellow Jackets are in the semifinals and are getting ready for an intense matchup down in the Mobile area.

The Yellowjackets will be squaring off against the 10-and-1 Leroy Bears. The two teams have never met but the Bears are no strangers to Class 2a region two teams after beating the Geneva County Bulldogs in the second round of the playoffs.

Here’s a fun fact, the Yellowjackets haven’t been to the semifinals since 1971, and coach Stewart says without god being with the team every Friday night, there’s no way they could be a win away from the state championship.

“We not gonna put limitations on what God can do. That’s one thing we talked about as a team goal thats our prayer to eat thanksgiving as a team and play in the state championship and have a chance to win one. You have to get through the state semifinals to get to the finals,” Stewart said.

Stewart says they’re anticipating a loud atmosphere but they are ready to put in a week of hard work so it can pay off Friday night.
