Abbeville adds football and basketball coaches Monday night.

ABBEVILLE, Ala (WDHN) — During Monday’s Henry County School Board meeting, the Abbeville Yellow Jackets added two new coaches to their athletic department.

After the departure of Robin Tyra, Yellow Jacket football needed to replace a coach who led Abbeville to multiple playoff appearances.

Today, that absence was filled with the official hiring of Labrian Stewart, who for the last few years coached at Dothan Prep. and Beverlye Middle.

In 2016, Stewart was the head coach at Northview High where he led the Cougars to a 15 and 26 record from 2011 to 2016.

The new coach will try to continue the success that Abbeville has had as the last three seasons the Yellow Jacket’s have gone 27-8 in the regular season.

Abbeville also added a new Men’s Basketball coach Monday night.

Jonathan Deveridge was also approved by the Henry County School Board. Deveridge has previous experience coaching girls hoops at Eufaula High and most recently Zion Chapel.

Deveridge is a Troy native and played high school ball at Charles Henderson High School.

Both of the new coaches will also be on the school’s academic faculty. Stewart will be a physical education instructor and Deveridge will be a career tech teacher.
