With high absentee ballot turnout, how will Houston County count them?

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Many Americans around the country are preparing to head to the polls while others have already sent in absentee ballots.

Houston county circuit clerk Carla Woodall said local turnout has been better than ever before.

Her department received 6,578 ballots by the original due date of Oct. 29. Absentee ballots must be postmarked for Nov. 2 to be counted.

“We have until 12 noon tomorrow to receive voted ballots by mail,” Woodall said. “We will be going back to the post office tomorrow to make ensure there were no ballots dropped in our mailbox at the post office.”

Woodall encourages you to view a sample ballot first so you know what to expect Tuesday.

She also reminded residents to not forget their photo ID.
