Level plains citizens will head to the polls on Aug. 25, making a choice between two candidates for the mayoral seat.
In an effort to see who can enhance the city of Level Plains, James Cambron and Ronnie Thompson gear up to run for election day, and WDHN met up with the two candidates to learn more about their plans.
Thompson said his skills as a people person makes him the ideal candidate.
After being in city council for 12 years, Thompson plans to enhance the city of Level Plains and bring the community together.
“I want to revamp our park, make it a focal point of the city where the people of Level Plains can come and join together,” he said.
In addition, he hopes to get a zip code designated for Level Plains so the revenue could go straight to them as opposed to Dale County.
He’s not the only one working on that same issue.
Candidate James Cambron said he plans to do that and more.
“I just want to help the people and work for the people you know a lot of people nowadays,” Cambron said. “Politicians have the impression that the citizens work for them there’s so much that needs to be done here and can be done.”
Honor, respect, and loyalty — these are the traditional values Cambron said he brings to the table.
He believes in humanizing himself for the betterment of the community, and that starts with cleaning up the community.
“For one thing we need a trash truck again,” Cambron said. “We need to get back a trash truck so that we can not just pick up garbage, but we can pick up debris and old furniture and stuff from the side of the road to keep ’em clean.”
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
