Woman charged in Coffee County human trafficking case enters plea agreement


COFFEE COUNTY, Ala.– A woman charged with human trafficking has reached a plea agreement with the District Attorney’s Office.

In 2017, Lajoy Rodriguez was indicted and later tried in court by a jury on charges of Human Trafficking and Rape first degree times two.

The jury was “hopelessly deadlocked” resulting in a mistrial.

Her trial was set to begin in a week but she entered guilty pleas to the reduce charges of Human Trafficking second degree.

The rape charges were dismissed.

Rodriguez was sentenced to 15 years concurrent in each case with time served and 3 years probation.

She must also register as a convicted sex offender.
