DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Wiregrass Angel House is preparing for this year’s National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims.
Each year on September 25, people across the country recognize victims of homicide. This year, over 300 Wiregrass murder victims will be honored. Their ages range between four months old to 80 years old.
Each of their names will be called out as their families and loved ones listen close by.
“I think it just means so much more when there is someone else here that you can stand beside and hold your hand and they know exactly what you’re going through,” Wiregrass Angel House Outreach Director Katy Lewis said. “The days like National Day of Remembrance really is just a wonderful time for them to come together and to celebrate the lives of each others’ loved ones.”
The Angel House’s ceremony will start at 5:30 p.m. It will be held in the garden behind the Angel House’s building.
For those who can’t be there in-person, the ceremony will be live streamed on Facebook.
