HEADLAND, Ala. (WDHN) — Grab your tennis shoes and make your way to Headland as “Walk with a Doc” makes its debut in the Wiregrass Thursday.
“It’s free, it’s safe, it’s structured and you have an opportunity to spend an hour you know picking a health care person’s brain about any kind of healthcare question you may have,” Dr. Neil Rasmussen said.
“Walk with a Doc” is an international nonprofit organization founded by a cardiologist in Ohio in 2005. The mission of the program is to inspire communities through movement and conversation to lead healthy lives.
“We have a healthcare crisis in this country and I think true healthcare reform is going to come from the individual making better lifestyle choices,” Dr. Rasmussen said.
Dr. Rasmussen explained why he wanted to implement the free monthly event here in the Wiregrass.
“We see so much in primary care of these chronic diseases that really are and have been shown and proven by science. We know that 80% of them are treatable and reversible with simple lifestyle changes,” Dr. Rasmussen said.
You can walk your way to a healthier lifestyle with Dr. Niel Rasmussen on the third Thursday of each month. All ages are welcome and for any beginners out there don’t worry, I’ve been told it’s a flat terrain.
“It’s a two-mile potential, but we tell people to walk as little or as much as you want,” Dr. Rasmussen said.
So if you are looking for a simple and sustainable form of physicality in a group setting minus the gym fee, no need to pre-register. Simply show up at Headland Family Medicine Thursday at 5 pm for the kick-off event.
