GENEVA COUNTY – Ala. (WDHN) – Geneva county will soon be proceeding with improving the intersection of County Road 49 and County Road 28. Commissioner Weston Spivey said, “These upgrades have been needed for a very long time. We were thankful to receive a grant. It’s one of the most dangerous intersections in the Wiregrass that has been responsible for a large amount of fatal accidents.
Spivey stated, “This is a route most everyone has to take to get to the beach. We plan to begin sometime in mid February and have plans to be completed by spring break. we want to keep beach travelers and our residents safe. We want no more accidents. I have spoken to first responders, state troopers, highway engineers and residents who all believe this is the necessary step to take to prevent future accidents from happening and to help slow traffic down from south and north 49. We can’t keep sitting back and knowing we have a problem and not addressing it. I would be devastated if we continued to do nothing and then another person lost a life when we could have done something to prevent it from occurring.”
