Ivey says the treatment will not affect her ability to serve as governor. Her office says she will resume a regular schedule next week.

The 74-year-old Republican governor announced Thursday that a malignant spot had been found on her lung.

The governor says she can receive a series of radiation treatments. Ivey says the cancer was found early and her doctors expect her to make a full recovery.

Her office has not disclosed the specific cancer diagnosis or staging or the exact procedure that she underwent.
