OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — Residents of an Ozark trailer park are saying they are being forced from their homes and have watched their landlord burn neighborhood mobile homes to the ground.
“I saw him set the thing on fire,” resident Mike Ross said. “He jumped into his truck and hauled out of here.”
Ross has lived at Brandi Lane Mobile Home Park for nearly a decade, but now he’s searching for a new home.
“He (the park’s owner) told us it wasn’t an eviction notice,” Ross said. “But the paper states that he’s closing the park down.”
The park’s owner told WDHN the residents have been notified about the park’s closure at least three times before.
“The first one was about 75 (or) 80 days out and then they were given two more since then,” said Brandi Lane Mobile Home Park owner Bob Smith. “We put out flyers, posted it on the trailers, everything.”
The park’s closure isn’t the only thing concerning residents as some trailers seem to have been bulldozed and burned down.
“He set the trailer on fire and took off,” Ross told WDHN. “Ain’t nobody seen or heard of him since. The police, fire department came out and everything.”
When questioned about the burned-down trailer, Smith said he hadn’t heard of any fires at the park.
“I’ve been in and out of there a couple times,” Smith said. “I dropped off a piece of equipment but nah.”
Either way, residents must now figure out their next moves.
“I don’t know how we’re going to get up the money to get it moved,” said Brandi Lane Mobile Home Park resident Jack Russo. “I have nowhere to go. I ain’t got nowhere to go.”
Residents have until August 20th to find their next homes. Smith did tell WDHN other trailer parks have offered residents new lots.
WDHN will continue to follow this developing story.
