TRACKING THE TROPICS: Marco weakening, Laura strengthening

News

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Tropical Storm Marco has started it’s weakening trend after a quick stint as a Category 1 Hurricane. It now has 70 mph winds and will decrease as the wind shear increases. The forecast path continues to take the storm closer to the coast of Louisiana and not as far inland. If it does make landfall in Louisiana, it will likely be a tropical storm and much weaker than it is right now.

Tropical Storm Laura has strengthened since the last update. It now has 65 mph winds and is moving along the southern coast of Cuba. It is still expected to move into the Gulf on Tuesday morning and become our 4th hurricane of the season. There is still a chance it could become a major hurricane just before landfall along the North Central Gulf of Mexico, likely in Louisiana. We’ll continue to monitor the situation for gusty winds, heavy rain, and a few, brief tornadoes mid week.
