DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — In June, Brent Jones was named the new Director of Athletics for Troy University after Jeremy McClain departed.
While Jones isn’t originally from Troy, he said this is his school and dream job.
“Troy Athletics and Troy University mean the world to me,” Jones said. “I’ve been here for two and a half years as the deputy A.D. We’ve had a lot of success, and my job is to be the biggest cheerleader for our coaches, our staff, our student-athletes, but as well to continue our momentum and trajectory.”
Jones said that he has big shoes to fill after taking over the program from McClain.
“I’m so appreciative of the way Jeremy left this department and because of that, I feel very confident,” Jones said. “I’ve also been involved in almost all the decisions that were made. He involved me in those, so I have a great relationship with everybody, and that’s in part to him.”
The big picture for Troy Athletics is they want to win but do it with integrity, and honor.
“What I talk about is the W-4 approach,” Jones said. “We’re going to win in the classroom. We’re going to win in the community, win on the playing field, and we’re going to win in the stands. We’re going to do it the right way, so that’s what we preach to all of our coaches, our student-athletes as well. If you can just remember that, we’re good with it.”
Jones also said that he wants to continue engaging with the fans.
