Clerk killed in early morning robbery identified as Troy grad student

The clerk has been identified as Troy graduate student Neil Purush Kumar.

Troy University has issued the following statement:

The victim in the Wednesday, July 24, homicide in Brundidge, Ala., Neil Purush Kumar, was a graduate student at the Troy Campus pursuing a master’s degree in computer science. University officials were notified of his death Wednesday morning by the Brundidge Police Department. The Troy University community is shocked and saddened by this act of violence and we extend our deepest condolences to Neil’s family and friends. The Office of International Programs has been in contact with his family and is offering support and assistance.

BRUNDIDGE, Ala. (WDHN) — A store clerk is dead after getting shot during an armed robbery Wednesday morning.

The Troy Messenger reports that the shooting occurred on the corner of Church Street and Alabama State Route 10 at around 6 a.m.

The clerk’s body, dead from a gunshot wound, was discovered at 6:40 a.m. and reported to police.
