DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan Police are searching for a murder suspect who fatally shot a homeowner in his own driveway on Woodham Road.

Just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday night, authorities say Rodney Caliste was outside his home when an individual reportedly walked up and shot him in the face.

“It’s sad (that) you can’t even walk out of the house; it’s sad,” Caliste’s niece Keyzaria Floyd said.

Police said the unknown suspect then left the scene. A gun believed to be connected to the murder was recovered.

“He was such a loving a person like every time he came around,” Floyd said. “He always came up and hug and him. He just had a great personality.”

According to court records, Rodney Caliste was convicted in 2006 for cocaine trafficking, with his probation getting revoked in 2008. Despite this record, authorities did not say if his death was drug-related.

At this time, police say they don’t have a motive for the murder of the 38-year-old victim. However, a source close to the situation said Caliste had plenty of enemies.
