DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Guests evacuated from their rooms to the lobby of Dothan’s Marriott Fairfield Inn just after 2 a.m. Sunday.
They were alerted by the fire alarm, screeching as the chaos unfolded.
The Dothan Police SWAT team soon made their way down the access road leading to the Marriott Fairfield Inn.
Moments later, one could hear flashbangs being used as they made entry.
What started this all was a woman bleeding from injury stumbled down the stairs of the hotel into the lobby, blood stains clearly showing her path to help.
Police said she was shot by Tyshawn Fearrington, 32, who was believed to still be in the building during the SWAT team raid.
“We believed he was still in the room,” Chief Steve Parrish said. The car they were driving was still in the parking lot.”
Hotel guests at the Marriott property were stunned and sleepless. The noise didn’t stop until the smoke cleared.
According to Investigator Keith Cook, the shooting happened because of an argument over a cellphone.
“Trivial stuff about cell phones,” Cook said. “What’s on your cell phone? Stuff like that. Alcohol was involved too, and that escalated it also.”
The two were reportedly in a relationship at the time.
Fearrington is originally from Georgia but currently resides in Dothan. He has been charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied building.
