COFFEE COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — The sheriff’s office responded to a call concerning a burned vehicle and a dead man found inside on County Road 663 on Monday, March 4.

Authorities announced the arrest of Joey Grissett for the murder of Ricky Brown. Members of Joey Grissett’s family contacted Ricky Brown’s family.

Brown’s body was later discovered on the property. Allegedly, Grissett fled to Jacksonville, Florida.

“Mr. Grissett had come up to a security officer in the airport and indicated that in fact there was a body at his home,” Twelfth Circuit District Attorney Tom Anderson said.

Joey had a large amount of money and his passport, according to authorities.

“It was determined that the cause of death of Mr. Brown was a combination of blunt force trauma to the head and neck area and also a crushed Larynx,” Anderson said.
