Suspect arrested in overnight fatal shooting

UPDATE 3:30 PM:

A suspect has been arrested for the overnight shooting in Ashford.

Deonte Latarus Gilmore is now booked in the Houston County Jail on a $500,000 bond for murder.

UPDATE 3:05 AM: The Houston County Sheriff’s Office is looking for multiple suspects in the murder investigation. Information has been distributed to law enforcement agencies in the region on the suspects.

HCSO Major Bill Rafferty confirmed officially to WDHN News that a homicide investigation is underway.

“We are actively working a scene,” Rafferty said. “The scene is being worked as a homicide. There is no other information being released at this time as we are in the early stages of the investigation.”

ORIGINAL STORY: Ashford, Ala. (WDHN) — A death investigation is underway at a house in the 100 block of Harrison Street in Ashford.

Sources told WDHN that the victim is 20 years old and is dead from a gunshot wound.

The body is outside of a large home. A number of similarly aged youth are at the scene and are being questioned by law enforcement. 

Law enforcement responded to the house at an earlier time in the evening for a non-emergency call in relation to a party at the location. 

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. Per HCSO protocol, information may only officially be released by Sheriff Donald Valenza himself.

The sheriff is not at the scene on Harrison Street, but numerous members of the command staff are present. Ashford police and Cottonwood police are also on the scene.
