Houston Co. Sheriff’s Office identifies body found on highway

Authorities have released the identity of the body found Monday morning outside of Home Oil Company on East Highway 84.

The victim has been identified as Keontre Shontre Whatley. He was 18 years old.

UPDATE — 11:30 am:

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office is currently working to identify the man found dead near Home Oil Company on East Highway 84.

Sheriff Donald Valenza said that around 5:47 a.m., workers with the company that were coming into work notified the sheriff’s office about the body. Deputies found the victim, a young black man believed to be between the years of 18 to 24 years of age, shot multiple times.

He is said to be around five feet eight inches to five feet eleven inches tall and weighs around 130 pounds.

It is not yet known how many times he was shot while the autopsy is in progress. The sheriff’s office also does not yet know what weapon was used in this case and is currently focusing on finding out who the victim is.

COWARTS, Ala. (WDHN) — One person is dead after a shooting in Cowarts Monday.

The shooting happened on Highway 84 East outside of the Home Oil Company. As of our latest information, the eastbound lane of Highway 84 is closed.

WDHN is looking for more information on what happened. Sheriff Donald Valenza is currently at the scene.
