COVINGTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — A River Falls man was shot during a standoff with law enforcement in Covington County Friday.

In a Facebook post, the Covington County Sheriff’s Office said deputies, River Falls Police, and other agencies responded to a “domestic violence” type complaint on Riverbend Drive after a call to 9-1-1 mid-afternoon Friday.

“When officers initially approached the residence, gunfire erupted in their direction. Communication was established with Brandon Elmore who was neither cooperative nor willing to exit the home peaceably,” the post stated. The person who made the 9-1-1 call managed to escape the home safely.

Elmore threatened to shoot officers during the standoff. The Covington County Sheriff’s Office learned he was wanted for crimes and a violation of probation charge.

Eventually, the Covington County Incident Response Team (IRT) arrived on the scene and entered the home. Elmore then exchanged gunfire with officers, and he was struck.

“Officers were struck numerous times in their ballistic shield but were not injured,” authorities said.

Elmore was taken to Andalusia Hospital and later to Baptist Hospital. He is in stable condition and is expected to recover.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating this incident.
