The Wiregrass Area 13th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at Sunset Memorial Park on Monday, May 27. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and features guest speaker, suicide bombing survivor, Brian Fleming. Mayor Mark Saliba serves as the master of ceremonies.
This free family event features a flower laying ceremony, an appearance by Fort Rucker Color Guard, patriotic music by the Pure and Simple Band, and a picnic lunch.
Keynote speaker, Brian Fleming, has an incredibly inspiring story. He is a combat-wounded Afghanistan war veteran, international speaker, and resilience trainer who helps people be more resilient in tough, turbulent situations. He was severely wounded in action by a suicide bomber who exploded 3-feet away from him in Kandahar, Afghanistan. After enduring 14-months of painful burn treatments, rehabilitation, and reconstructive surgery, he discovered what separates the world’s most resilient people from everyone else, and those same lessons are exactly what he will share with the Wiregrass. Brian now serves as a Department of Defense “Resilience Trainer” for the US Military on bases and outposts across the globe. He also conducts “Resilient Leadership” keynotes for Fortune 500 companies, associations, and organizations across the globe and is an author of several books. He and his wife are parents to two young children and live in Dallas, Texas.
The public is invited to attend and celebrate the true meaning of Memorial Day. In the event there’s inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to another venue TBD.
