State trooper speaks on safety precautions for travelers Memorial Day weekend

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Highway 231 traffic has already started picking up in the Circle City this Memorial Day weekend.

People are eager to hit the road due to being quarantined inside especially with Gov. Ivey’s changes to the ‘safer at home’ order — many places are back open. While travelers may be coming through Dothan heading to the beach, make sure everyone in the car is wearing a seatbelt and paying attention to the road because you can never have to many eyes on the road.

Corporal Rodney Hawkins says the last thing you want to do is spoil your vacation being involved in a car accident.

“Some of the contributing factors we have seen over the years have been speed, distracted driving like texting and other things that can cause distractions inside the vehicle,” Corporal Rodney Hawkins said.

Cpl. Hawkins added to slow down if you run into rain and construction zones. However, stay safe and enjoy your trip.
