(WDHN) — Each year, the Southeast Health Foundation puts on a big event to provide important funding for cancer services and programs offered at Southeast Health.
“Champions of Hope is Southeast Health Foundation’s annual fundraiser to raise funds for cancer services at Southeast Health,” said Sarah Jenks, Donor Relations Specialist. “The event includes a Spirit Walk, 5K, 10K, and Half marathon.”
The money raised for event goes toward Cancer Services at Southeast Health and also funds cancer programs throughout the Wiregrass. However, this year will be different due to COVID-19.
“This year, we are going virtual,” Jenks said. “That means that while we can’t gather together, participants can still participate in the Spirit Walk, 5K, 10K, or half marathon on a route of their choosing and can continue to support Cancer Services in the Wiregrass through donations.”
Al Stefin is a throat cancer survivor who will be the honorary chair of this year’s Champions of Hope event. This year’s event will give him an opportunity to share his story and to hear other cancer patients’ stories, too.
“It is an honor to be a part of Champions of Hope as an honorary co-chair,” Stefin said. “I see my role as an encourager to cancer survivors and to encourage people to participate in the event to continue the fight against cancer and raise funds that stay here locally through Champions of Hope.”
