DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) – New and replacement cameras will be placed in areas around Dothan parks.
This is phase one of the Dothan Leisure Services Department park safety plan to ensure safety within the parks.
“Cameras will be everywhere,” Executive Director of Dothan Leisure Services Elston Jones said.
“We’re not gonna say where but we will have them all over the parks inside, outside parking lots where we determine they’re needed .”
Between 75 to 80 cameras will be new and replaced in city parks.
Phase two of the plan will place Dothan police officer on the grounds regularly to patrol the parks.
“We expect to have a police officer in some of our parks as early as this summer,” Dothan Police Chief Steven Parrish.
“We’re gonna do some scheduling and try to get officers in these parks and as the leisure service director has said it will encompass all of our parks.”
About 15 to 20 officers will be placed in parks across Dothan and the cost for the first phase of this protection plan is costing around 70 to 75 thousand dollars.
