Communities across the Wiregrass are holding various celebrations as a part of Black History Month.
Samson town councilman, James Ruttlen Jr., is the pastor of the Standing Strong Family Life Center. The center was previously a supermarket which has now been transformed into a church and non-profit facility to help the underserved.
“It’s not just black people here, but folks of all races taking part because it’s really American history.” Ruttlen said.
Samson Mayor Clay King talked about the progress made in race relations since he got involved in local politics 20-years-ago.
